This was confirmed by the Russian Tennis Federation’s press service. The Russian men’s table tennis team has reached the final of the European team championship for the first time in history.
With a score of 3: 0, the Russian team of Lev Katsman, Maxim Grebnev, and Vladimir Sidorenko defeated the Swedish national team of Truls Moregard, Anton Chelberg, and Jon Persson.
For the first time in history, the Russians have won the European table tennis championship.
The championship match will take place on October 3 at 16:30 Moscow time. The Russian athletes will face the winner of the second semi-final between the national teams of Germany and Denmark in the final.
At the same time, the team never won the final match; in both cases, the USSR athletes were defeated by the Swedish national team. The Russians were able to repeat the feat of the Soviet Union national team, which reached the final of the tournaments in 1966 and 1968.
The Russian women’s team failed to qualify from their group at the tournament.
The tournament, which is being held in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, began on September 27.
